During the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions 2011 in November 2011, a paper was presented from a study in Taiwan of 102,620 patients, over an average period of 7 years, concluded that “Tooth scaling was associated with decreased risk for cardiovascular risk and stroke.” Those who had their teeth scaled and cleaned by a dentist or dental hygienist had a 24 percent lower risk of heart attack and 13 percent lower risk of stroke compared to those who had never had a dental cleaning over the average 7 year follow up period.
The abstract of the article can be found at the American Heart Association website.

For those of our patient who cycle to our surgery, Chatswood Dental Associates have now installed a double bicycle rack just under the window facing the car park. As the rack is bolted to the concrete, bicycles can be securely locked to the rack; it is also visible from the staff room for added security.
So be healthy; cycle to your dentist!
